bunged up dishwasher
27 Answers
I have quite an old Bosch dishwasher, which has never been a problem until today. I just opened it after it had run a cycle, and there was murky water lying at the bottom. I've got all the water out by hand, and picked out 1 kernel of sweetcorn and 1 pea (hardly an unusual event in this house!).
is it very risky to just run it again? is there anything I can add to clean through the drainage area?

or it's connected to the drain on a spigot they often get blocked up with congealed fats and oils, it's a simple job to clean it out (used to make me gag having to do it though!! its a horrible job!)
If it's not that then something may have got through the filter into the pump, in which case it's a quick pump off and clean job (probably not something you can do easily)

................ oh, poop ................... other simple things to check ......... hose not kinked? Sink waste not blocked?
Chuck mentions blockage in the pump. Could be one of the screwdriver options!
Failing that, run it again. As someone has said, it could have been a little glitch. Maybe a hiccup in the mains affected the cycle.

I don't know exactly how those ones are designed, but on some others I've worked on the pump is directly below that cylinder filter so you can see (and normally clear) any thing that might have blocked the pump by sticking your head inside and looking down the hole. (though obviously I might just be saying this to get Sara to stick her head in a dishwasher :-P )
The other thing you can do is pull it out and drop the end of the drain hose down to floor level, if water runs out easily then the chances are there isn't a total blockage and it is the pump getting stopped by some obstruction.
