My dad has recently become "computerised" and is starting to explore the internet - can anyone suggest any interesting, useful and informative sites he can browse just to get more practice navigating and searching please? He is interested in history, UK geography, transport - most things really, just looking for some ideas for him of useful sites. TIA

For UK travel planning:
http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/
http://www.traveline.org.uk/

For browsing through other people's photo albums:
http://www.picasaweb.com/
(It's good fun to try different search terms, to see what comes up!)
To discover historic buildings, etc:
http://www.english-heritage.org.uk/
http://www.nationaltr...ain/w-vh/w-visits.htm
For historic documents (such as Shakespeare's will and the indictment of Dick Turpin), see here:
http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/museum/
(You need to click on the 'transcript' links to read the text).
This site isn't fully online yet. (It's being developed throughout 2011). But there are some great films from the British Council archive already there. (Click on 'Digitised Films', at the top left. I strongly recommend viewing the 'Cricket' one!):
