Diesel Astra Starting Problem

Our W reg diesel Astra Estate has run fine upto now.

It started then died after ten seconds. It turns over but won't catch. We have had new glow plugs fitted. We have had a new battery and new fuel seals (all genuine Vauxall parts). Will start now but engine turns over for ages. Sometimes have to leaveit and go back. Very annoying for the neighbours at 6.30am. Once going and warm...runs fine.

Getting very frustrated. When I park up I've got no idea if it will go again

Anyone any ideas

I had a very similar problem with my last car (Omega). I tried replacing stuff, but a mechanic friend recommended turning on the ignition, waiting for the glow plug lamp to go out, then turn off the ignition. repeat 2 or 3 times. 9 times out of 10 it would start without much trouble. I know it's not a definitive answer for you, but give it a go.

Thanks for the advice

Tried it a couple of times....no joy.

I've always had diesel engines...this is the first time I've had this.

As said before...very frustrating......Thanks anyway

It sounds like the same problem I had with my R-reg diesel Astra. Mine would start (sometimes) but die almost immediately, I could rev it as soon as it started but would still die when the revs came down again. It turned out to be a fault with the immobiliser, which my local Vauxhall dealer bypassed. My immobiliser now doesn't immobilise, but I do have a car that still runs faultlessly 20 000 miles later.
