I am having a limestone fireplace fitted and they are due back to fit the fire tomorrow but at the top of the fireplace where the fire would go both sides it looks like there are two large roundish scorch marks on the stone and the fireplace looks as if it has been used in a shop display.
I rang them and asked if this was the case and they insist it is a brand new fireplace and the large brown marks either side of where the fire would fit are natural. I am not happy with their explanation and they wont come out to look at the fireplace. They insist the fitter will look at it tomorrow when he comes to fit the fire. can I ask the fitter to remove the fireplace and give me my money back because every time I look at this fireplace all my eyes are drawn to are these two large brown marks
Many thanks people
If you are not satisfied then you should tell them in writing and and ask them to remove it and refund or replace it. Keep a record of all conversations and documents. If they do not sort it out you might get an opinion from a stone mason and as necessary seek redress from Small Claim Court. Take plenty of photos.
On the wooden crate that they left outside it says Elsa Limestone on the receipt it says it is an Arena when I saw one in the showroom it didnt have large stain marks but I think I will get a professional to look at it
Thanks for your replies
Hi The Builder
Yep thats the one Mine looks nothing like it though it has brown marks either side of the curve section that look like scorch marks it does not sit evenly either side of the upright sections and the top section is smooth in parts and rough and grainy all along the back section.
They claim it is damp and asked me for a hair dryer to blow it dry
They say it isnt even either side because it is natural stone and they have not polished it off yet but came to put the fire in it.
I have rejected the goods in writing and asked them to remove it but they havenot done so up to now.
I think I have a long way to go with this company
