You have to tell them your email address (the one you registered with PayPal) so that PayPal will know it's you - the payer has to enter your email address in order for the transaction to be credited to you. It's safe and secure, the payer never has to know any bank details etc.
Payment by cheque or PO is the alternative but you would have to wait for a cheque to clear before sending an item (assuming you're selling).

Actually, you're going to see a lot more information about your buyer than he/she is you. If you're going to ship the purchase to the buyer, say by mail, at least here in the U.S., there'll be a box on the PayPal section showing you're buyer paid for the item that says "Create a Shipping Lable". When you click that it's going to show you the buyers home address. I ship a lot of vintage sunglasses all over the world sold through Ebay and when it's an international shipment I also have to prepare a Customs form for the appropriate country where the buyer lives. Most of those also require a phone number for the buyer and even an e-mail address....
