I read once that they have automatic machines that call each number as it arises. Whatever it is it is a damn nuisance. If I pick up the phone and one starts I put it back down again without even trying to answer it. I still get them although I have registered with the place that filters them out (forgotten what it is called).
I am also signed up for the TPS. It doesn't stop the calls from abroad but I can always tell if I receive one as there is a long pause when I answer the phone, so I simply hang up. On the rare occasion one gets through and asks to speak to Mr or Mrs Overall, I say I will go fetch them and just leave them hanging on the line until they hang up.
Same as rowan, we have a recycled number, we constantly get calls for a Mrs. Moss and a Mrs. Havery who have had this number in the past. We also get the odd call thinking we are Leyland golf club as our number is one digit different to theirs.... this is along with all the compensation and mis-sold PPI calls.
We have had just 2 calls so far this month from people we actually know.
