is it legal to take out policy on someone else without their permission??? partner's mother refuses to take out policy even though we will pay for it,as we will not be able to afford funeral when time comes.

Just put the money in the bank instead, that'll help - or put it in an ISA so you don't have to pay tax on it.

I'm pretty sure that the over50 life cover offered by the post office wil allow you to do this, as long as it's for a relative and not a complete stranger.

'When the time comes' make sure the person who organises the funeral is on benefits then they will get a funeral grant around £1200 I think . All funeral directors are obliged by law to porvide a simple basic funeral for the cost of the grant but they really hate you to know that. They are money grabbing bar stewards who will tell you the cheapest possible funeral is around £2500 but if there is simply no money they have to do it for the funeral grant cash.
