Just put this on Insurance but thought I would also ask on here..
Just wondered if this has happened to anyone else.....................
our daughter was just reversing and a car hit here,on daughters car it was a tiny mark just above the bumper by the lights on the back corner. The women drove off. My daughter got out and could see it was nothing much so she drove away. Next morning the women came up to her and said her car was a right off and she had informed the police my daughter drove away and didnt stop.!! and was claiming off her insurance. When my son in law contacted there insurance he was told because my daughter was reversing it was her fault.! Anyone reversing then it is always there fault.????? Is this correct.? many thanks Brenda x

I have my suspicions here Lilacben, if she was concerned her car she would have stopped do you not think? where was the so-called accident? was thee a CCTV there / near? if so ask can you have or loan the tape, better still ask your insurance the same, there are a lot of claims made by " Dare I say it" I think I'd better not but I'm sure you know who I mean, we have a lot in our area. I think this other person is trying it on, if you have her address or phone No, inform her that you are contacting a solicitor, if she was reversing! why did the other driver sound their horn or stop? there are a lot of ???????? here, do your home work before going any further.
As long as the incident has been reported then you have nothing to worry about as the insurance companies will pay for the repairs (dependant on cover) and you just pay the excess.
As to who was to blame for the accident it is impossible to say without having all the circumstances. Was it on a main road or in a car park, was the other person driving at a speed appropriate to the area. Speed limits are the maximum you are allowed to do, not what you should always trying to do.
As for someone at the insurance company saying it was your daughters fault I suspect that was someone in a call centre that is paid to take details and not analyse accidents. Every incident is different and can take months to fight over by the insurance companies, I suspect the other party is just trying to scare your daughter. Did your daughter get any photographs or witness statements while at the scene?

Sounds like a scam to me , if the car was a write off it could hardly have been driven away without stopping . The other driver should have stopped and exchanged details but that didn't happen. Looks like the other driver is trying to claim for a lot more than actually happened. I would not be surprised if the other driver has not reported it at all but just wants a payout. Your daughter needs to report everything to the police and the insurance company. If asked just say that the damage to your daughters car was so minimal it was not worth reporting, again it will seem strange to the insurance that one car was a write off and the other suffered only a tiny amount of damage, which reinforces your daughters story.
