My brothers car was pinched and smashed to bits last night, unfortunately he doesn't remember who he is insured with, his girlfriend at the time did it all through one of the compare sites, they are now not together and he has no contact with her at all. Their split was very acrimonious and she destroyed most of his personal belongings.

Is there any way to find out who you're insured with?

Thanks for any replies.

If he reports the theft/damage to the police, surely they can tell him if the car is still unsured or not.

We know the car was definitely insured, we just don't know who with.

Below is a quote from the above site. It looks like he may be able to find out from them.

Any driver may check that their vehicle is registered on the MID (and therefore they are less likely to be inconvenienced by police by being suspected of driving uninsured) by using www.askmid.com. See our askMID page for more details.

Thanks ubasses, I'll get his reg details off him later and get in touch with them to see who he's insured with.

What a bloody palaver, the poor man has been through hell and back this past month and now this.

Thanks again.
I thought the site only confirmed that you had insurance rather than who it was with.
Who paid for the insurance? Check your bank statement or credit card bill.
Did you keep any documents in the car in case of emergency?
Just wondered if the ex-girlfriend might have cancelled the insurance if their split was acrimonious. I thought the police might know which company the car was insured with. I obviously didn't make clear what I actually meant!

Hope all is sorted soon.

All very vague at the moment, I think mum paid for it on her card but she disposes of her statements every month! Worst ways he'll have to give her the money to get copies if necessary.
Did he not carry a copy of the certificate in the car?
Question Author
Nope, and to be honest I don't keep anything in my car that may identify me.
