Wedding Insurance?
I believe it is possible to insure against mishaps at weddings. We are hosting our daughter's wedding in our garden in August in NE Scotland. Can we insure against the whole thing being spoilt by the weather? Any advice or past experiences would be most helpful. thanks in advance

No standard policy would cover it. (Here's an example of what's typically covered: http:// www.ean dl.co.u k/weddi ng/uk-w edding- insuran ce/#pol icy ).
You can, of course, insure against just about anything which isn't a 'dead certainty' (by persuading an insurer to create an individual policy specifically for your needs) but, where the likelihood of of the event [which is insured against] actually happening is quite high, the cost of the policy would be close to, or even more than, the amount which would be paid out.
Be honest: Would YOU offer to pay out on an insurance policy if it rained in N.E. Scotland? I doubt it!

...and if you did pay the premium and had to make a claim, would the compensation money make it all OK?
I suggest you insure against the weather in other ways. Spend the premium money on a nice big marquee and garden heaters for the evening. Lay some outdoor flooring to prevent a mud bath and go have plenty of small gazebo snugs dotted around the place.
I wish yiu a very happy, and dry day!

Reception was indoors, luckily. As I left home to step into the wedding car the heavens opened. The walk up the churchyard was a long one. By the time I reached the church door my two (expensive) ringlets were straight.
I have a lovely photograph of me and my father arriving at the church arm in arm. He was carrying a large black umbrella over himself!

We tried to take out a pluvius policy it proved too expensive and pretty much useless. It stated there had to be a specific amount of rain for any payout , this was equivalent to a heavy rainstorm. It could have drizzled heavily all day but that would not have been enough to get a payout although to would have ruined the event. It was also very expensive, July in south England and the premium was nearly 50% of the insured cost.
