I have posted in this the law section, but would appreciate replies from anyone,

On Sat,as i was parking my car in a space at the supermarket, A child in the car on my right, opened the door causing me to get too close to the car on my left, leaving a slight scrape on the side. ( I have ben driving 50 yrs and have never been involved in any accidents caused by myself , and have never claimed on my insurance)
As this procedure is completely alien to me I did leave a note on the damaged car, as did the owner left one for me when he returned to his vehicle. Am I within my rights to ask him to provide two quotes for the work needed to be done on his car ?? I must add that he is a solicitor, and as he knows the law, I would not like him to "blind me with science" Any replies very much appreciated.Thank you

that's the least of it. If you deal with this privately without telling your insurers, and they find out, it could massively affect your premiums! I know it was only a scrape and you have a reason but you hit a stationary vehicle! A slight scrape on the side of the car could result in a repair costing hundreds of pounds,it will sometimes entail respraying the whole side of the car to get a colour match. Best report it to your insurance company and let them deal with it. Even small accidents should be reported to the insurance company.
I agree.

Thank you all, I agree that if I paid privately this would be much more than the higher premium on my insurance for making said claim. Thank you

Thank you, i have informed my insurers, they are going to contact the other party, and I am going to leave it to them, just off to Toyota with my car, I think a bit of "t- cut" would suffice, but I would like it done professionally.
Once again thanks all for your replies.

What a result !! I have just spoken to the injured party ref. car scrape and he assures me that he has been able to polish out the damage to his vehicle and does not wish to take the matter further, he did text me with this information as well , and I will forward the text to my insurers to to verify my story. Thanks again
good!
