While you can check online that your vehicle is actually recorded as insured ( http:// ownvehi cle.ask mid.com / ) there's no way to find out the name of the insurer.
To do that you'll either need to check your bank (or credit card) statements to see if they show who you're making payments to, or complete this form

and post it, together with a £10 fee, to the address shown on it.

As you have discovered, the internet is not omniscient. Neither are the people who populate question and answer websites, like Answerbank, equipped with psychic powers. The ones here are pretty da*ned good at guessing things, given enough clues but guessing where your insurance paperwork is stored is a bit beyond us.
