My daughter has recently split from her husband and has taken him off the cars insurance. Because he has 2 drink driver convictions and now he has another conviction althought NOT car related he is having trouble to get a car insure that isnt sky high.? Up until now my daughter has been the main driver and he was on as a named driver....
The husband is living with parents at the moment and we have told him to get his dad to insure him as his named driver. But he says he cannot do that?
Could someone help me please.? Many thanks

I'm not sure I understand your question. If they have split up, why does she feel she has to help him get car insurance?

It is because they have three children and he needs a car to get to work...He keeps pulling the heartstrings saying he cannot see the children or pick them up anymore....
Your daughter should not be swayed - they have split and he has to sort himself out as does she.
Dont commit anything to him he`s clearly a poor risk thats why she left him stick with her first instinct and let him sort his own issues out. With 3 convictions hes hardly prime partner material.
If she is worried, she should ask him about it as I presume he knows the answer? But I agree with Chrissa1 and would be saying "oh dear how sad too late" and leaving him to sort it.
I thought it might be something like that. Does she want "things" to go on as they have been? Cos you know the saying...."If you always do what you always did, then you'll always get what you've always got"

We cannot inderstand why his other conviction has made such a difference with the car insurance.? His dad has tried all different companies and they all say for him to insure him it is £1000 per month.. but my daughter ,,,as her main driver and him as named driver it was only £300 a month.?
Again. His problem, not hers.
might be because he was her spouse? In which case now they are split, that would no longer apply either.

They have been together for 16 years and married four years ago.....more the pity!!!... he has always been the same drinking and betting..it has taken her this long to get rid of him...thank goodness.! But turning nasty about this car insurance and making her feel guilty....not for him but the children. xx
Tell her to stay calm and maybe she could offer to drive the children to see him?

They above all must be priority but he cannot use them as argaining tools.

Thankyou for all your replies....It isnt just getting the children to see him it is the fact he needs it to get to work and is on shift work....starting 6.00 am one week...where we live the buses do not start until 7.00am and last one is at 6.30 pm....when he finishes at10.00 pm.
If your daughter does help him out then she is "fronting", which is a form of fraud

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/news/10858868/The-risk-of-insurance-fronting.html

Most often practiced by parents trying to obtain cheap insurance for young drivers, but the same applies in this case. It's illegal ...
Had this, "other" conviction been made known to your daughter's insurance company? In any event, because they have split up and is not living in the marital home, how can he have the use of the family car?

I'm confused.

chrissa.... he has taken the family car...x
Oh. Well, he'll have to give it back then, if he can't drive it.
can't he take taxi's?
Don't think I would want him to drive the children around anyway if he can't be trusted not to drink and drive!
