Vehicle Seizure By Bailiffs

was watching a program on you tube where the police were pulling over cars with outstanding parking tickets using ANPR then letting the bailiffs deal with it. one bailiff said "its this particular car we're after reguardless of who's driving it" with no mention of it's registration number whatsoever. My question is if you amass a year's tickets on say an old ford with a personal plate then change that to a jag the police have stopped the number plate, not the car can they impound the jag?or was it just a bad choice of words by the bailiff?

I should think not, the Original ticket was made for the Ford not the Jag.

Doesn't DVLA have to be informed,of changes to number plates etc?

So the bailiffs may get a car with xyz numberplates but it won't stand up to close per scrutiny.

The number plate should have a paper trail.

Were they suggesting that if the car was sold they'd go after the car not the owner at the time of the offences ?

thanks all for your usual quick answers,i wouldn't have thought they could impound the jag either Cassa, sorry i should have made clear that i meant by legal transfer of the plates.

They wouldn't impound the jag unless it was the same owner who had all the tickets.

All our work cars have personal number plates and all come with paperwork.

The ANPR gives the make , model and colour of the car not just the registration number. If the ANPR said the reg no was for an old Ford and it was on a Jag the police would be asking why?

there is a paper trail so you could quickly show it was not the car that incurred the tickets. Also it sounds dodgy to me, it is the driver that incurs the ticket in that car, if the car is sold for example, again the current owner will be able to show the paper trail to demonstrate they have not incurred the ticket.
