Public Liability Insurance

Hi all, I was all set to book a table at a craft fair for this coming November, but now I'm told I need a public liability insurance certificate. The fair is in a hotel; surely they'd have it themselves. Why do I need it too?

The hotel will only have insurance against claims based upon negligence by their owners, staff or agents.

It won't cover claims against you when someone trips over the trailing extension lead that you're using to provide the power for the spot lamps on your stall, when a child chokes on the stuffing of the teddy bear that you failed to sew up well enough or when someone who buys a scarf from you suffers an allergic skin reaction to the dyes you used when making it.

Exactly as Chris says.
I had to have it when I stood on the local markets and we've just had to take it out again because my Good lady is starting to do Craft Fairs as well this year.
Should only cost you about £50 for the full year. I'll try to find out who we've taken it out with and post later. Can be done over the phone and will be in place in 24 hours.

You need it to protect yourself and the venue needs you to have insurance so they are protected too...all people trading at any market must have insurance. We have had to show ours at every venue we have traded at.
