I Need My Deceased Father's National Insurance Number.

I have applied for my deceased fathers military was records and have been told i need his National Insurance Number. I have searched through old documents I have but cannot trace his number. Where could I obtain this.

did he have a military pension? could you not get in touch with the service he was in, maybe they will help you?

I think they want his National Service number.
Give us more information re service, dates, unit etc. There are a lot of knowledgeable and helpful people on here. Just remember, as a newcomer, to add a 'please' and 'thank you.' Let's know how you get on.

derek is right, I am sure the service he was attached to will want some form of ID from yourself and that of your father, ie, passport, copy of death cert etc before they provide classified information

the "official" link that I posted will take you through the process. My nephew is doing it for my Mum and Dad's records. he needed death certs and to pay for the records, he also had to say that he had permission from us, his Mum and two aunts, as we are NOK We didn't have to write anything though.

this happened with my cousin who died last year and nobody could trace her NI, think it was given through the "buroo".

If his pension was paid into his bank his NI number will be on his bank statements. Provided he was in receipt of state pension.

Thanks for that information and link woofgang, I didn't know such details were available - I would love to have my Dad's war records since he didn't survive the conflict and I never got the chance to know him.

Zelda, to be clear. Ideally, this is the information you require to obtain someones Service Record (no doubt someone will correct me if I've missed anything! )

1. Full name.
2. Branch of Service. ( RN, RAF, Army etc)
3. Unit ( Regiment. RN Branch. RAF Squadron etc)
4. Service Number. (Unique to all service men and women). National Insurance number would be a useful but secondary requirement.
5. Approx dates of service.
