House Insurance ran out in July - Can I claim today?
5 Answers
A friend of mine forgot to renew his house insurance in July this year. Says the provider did not send him a renewal reminder. His property was damaged by the blast in hemel. He needs to make a claim. Is there anything he can do. Personally I think not Any ideas or comments gratefully received

Most companies will automatically send out out a renewal letter - it is feasible that this could be 'lost in the post' but I'm afraid it is purely down to your mate to renew.
That said, I would have thought that it be possible to claim from the company who caused the damage - ie Buncefield Oil - they would have insurance in place for such an evantuality.
He can throw himself on his insurer's mercy if he has a long history of insuring with them, but with the amount of money they're probably going to have to pay out to cover this incident I doubt very much that he will have any luck. I know the horse has already bolted from the stable now, and the only sad lesson to be learned here is to take responsibility for yourself in these issues and keep a diary note of when house, contents and car insurance premiums are due for renewal.
