All replies are fascinating so thanks!, who naome, can't you say? we won't tell! I guess most of us use common sense and leave famous people alone. They must get annoyed at their catchphrases being flung at them. Best to let them know we appreciate their work without feeling we're entitled to act as though we know them personally.
Many years ago, when I lived in upstate New York, I saw the movie musical actor Howard Keel on the local bus. He was known for Kiss Me Kate, Annie Get Your Gun and number of other well known musicals of the 50s...he was retired by then.
Around the same time, I met the actress Gretchen Wyler at her dog and cat rescue...my then partner and I had decided to rehome our nervous dog as we were moving back to Manhattan. So not totally accidental.
