Your best bet is to come from Bulgaria with a car and trailer and take it back on that.
As soon as you pay for the car the owner will send off your details to the DVLA. The car will be notified as being permanently exported and no road tax will be required.
You should insure the car with a Bulgarian insurance company using the English registration number.As long as the car isn't dangerous you should be OK to drive it but you could book it in for an MOT near the ferry port to be on the safe side.
However, you really should have an MOT to be on the safe side the car may have dangerous defects that you don't know about.
