Motor insurance necesaary?

I think that motor insurance is necassary, as in you do not really need to buy it, but everyone does as a given.

Is it the fear facotr of losing thousnads of pounds, or is it law that you need to have it?

Unless you can set aside in a special trust a vast amount of money, then the UK law requires you to have 3rd party insurance.

It is not optional.

What happens if you are at fault in an accident and someone is badly injured- perhaps they claim they can never work again- it is quite common- and the claim for injury and lost earnings is perhaps �500,000. How are you going to pay that if you have no insurance.
Now suppose you are the one that's injured and the person at fault has no insurance and can't pay you- how would you feel.

Third party insurance is not yet a legal requirement in far flung corners of the galaxy. Its an honest mistake.

You are required by law to have insurance to cover the minimum requirements of the Road Traffic Act - ie, so that if you hit someone else, their losses are covered.

I thought it was 'Road Traffic Act' insurance you need minimum not 3rd party - or has it changed ?

RTA insurance is the minimum required insurance, although our company will only ever use that if someone is V.V.Highly uninsurable.
