Ok, here is the situation, I've had two accidents in the past year (from 2/07/07) and both which are not my fault, one has been settled, (other driver claiming liability) and another where a driver pulled out on me at a T-Junction which is still in the claiming process. My insurance renewal came through last week and it was nearly triple what I paid last year... I phone up and said whats going on and the lady on the phone states that because I have a claim that is not settled at the moment my price goes up even though I have 2 years no claims they are not taken into account due to this 2nd claim that is not settled. I was going to renew with a different company anyway as my renewal dates is 2/7/08 but was wondering where do I stand, do I have to inform this new company that this claim is ongoing or do I say I have 2 years no claims ???

if you dont inform them, you will be committing insurance fraud, as they will ask you about it and you would have to lie. Worst case scenario is that despite pating for your insurance you would find yourself not covered in the event of a claim
The new insurance will probably ask for proof of your NCD by asking for a copy of your existing renewal invitation. If the claim outcome goes the way you expect and theinsurer recovers its losses then your NCD should be reinstated and you'd get a refund on the premium.
similar thing happened to me a few years ago.

I was hit by another driver in Dec, then another clown crashed into the back of my car the following Jan.
Although your NCD is protected, if you have 2 claims in 3 years, it affects your premium.

I had to wait 9 months to get both of these claims settled, as the other insurers haggled, before finally paying out. In the meantime, I had to pay 2 lots of 100 excess,a nd my premium went up by 150.......leaving me 350 out of pocket.
The good news was, as soon as the claim was settled they refunded me, and finaly, also claimed back some costs.
You'll have to let any new insurers know about your claim - they share a database anyway - and pay the extra. But someday you'll get the money back.
