I was dreading my quotes because at the time i had points but was due to come off after 3 months, So i went on 1 a while ago and i ended up saving about 460, Filled in all the bits include my points etc got my quotes and was gonna go for the cheapest when the phone starts ringing so after the 4th call i said "Thanks for ringing but been offered 1 alot lower than yours on line so i'll go with them" you know the kind of thing to get rid of callers! Well he then said how much so i made it up 300 less than their quote i heard the keyboard going and then he said oooooh we can do if for this much and it ended up saving me 460! Bonus. So when mine up for renewal i'll be back on the sites. lol
the price comparison will often put the higher difference on a higher xs to bring the quote down!!!
My car insurance renewal this year was 230 so I went on a comparison site and found insurance for 176. I rang my current insurers to tell them I wasn't renewing with them. They asked why, so I told them.
They then said I could renew with them for 175.
I find the comparison sites rubbish, I can always find a cheaper online quote than they can.

Also, find the cheapest quote and ring the company, 99% of the time you'll get a lower quote over the phone than the internet
