Hiring a skip

We've a load of domestic waste to get rid of, all piling up in the garden, shed and loft at the moment. A lot of damp wood including 3 doors, small pieces of old furniture, large outside Xmas decs which have gone rusty, bags of stuff from when we had our bathroom redone and just general crap that has built up over the years. I'd say altogether there is an awful lot of stuff there, it would probably fill our shed easily (8ft x 6 ft floor) especially the wood (too damp to burn as well).

Any idea of the cost of a skip in the East Manchester / Tameside area? We wouldn't need a permit. Anyone tried those weird skip bags they sell in B&Q which skip companies can collect for you - do they work out cheaper?

Skips are expensive. Typically around �150 I think. Hippo bags are cheaper but don't hold as much. Hiring a van and taking it yourself to the local tip may be cheaper.

LOL no kno!! - we've hired about 6 skips in the last few years, I don't know how we generate so much crap! Although we have been doing up the house and garden so that explains a lot.

We hired from one skip company, their prices went up loads every time we hired, I wasn't sure if we were being jipped. Thought someone here might know a reputable and competitively priced company. I don't like getting someone in who hasn't been recommended.

Bin collections have gone fortnightly, and the council has also reduced the type of recycling collections to save money. We have a tiny car and the local dump is miles away so it's not possible to shift it all that way.

I thought about getting a man & van, done that before also and saved a load of time with extra help from someone who is strong enough to carry and lift all the crap. But thought they would cost more?

why not check the local paper for rubbish removal adverts? Most offer a free estimate so you will get a better idea of your costs

Open up an indoor fire place & burn it - will warm you as well. Good exercise chopping it up!

You will be charged for trade waste if you take a van to a tip.

Just hire a skip for about �140.

a builders skip in York cost me �130.00 a pop the other week and I filled 3 ....

This is such an easy answer I don�t know why your getting so much grief about it.
You should be paying around �150 give or take �20 and you need at least a 6 yard skip. I�d go for 8 yard

one other thing dont get those hippo bags from BnQ you will fill them with a one door almost. I had 2 of them and still had to get a skip.

At least I have a ballpark figure to go off, so I know I'm not getting ripped off when I do make enquiries. I always expect the worst when getting quotes and stuff, I must sound like a sucker :o)
