Car insurance for young drivers
Please can anyone advise me re insurance companies offering competitive quotes for 18-year-old drivers. My daughter has been a named driver on our policy for 18 months without any mishap but now needs insurance in her own name. Because she has no NCB in her own name we can find nothing under 1,400/year but we have heard that cheaper quotes are available.

When I got my insurance at 16/17 I had a 1 litre Rover Metro and got third party fire and theft for 700. Norwich Union were the most expensive they quote me about 1200 so it really does pay to shop around. I don't know if these companies that claim to offer cheaper car insurance to young drivers really do, I certainly didn't find they did.
Best thing is to just phone as many people as poss and you'll soon get an idea of whats the best deal.
Also look at confused.com
comparethemarket.com etc.
confused is pretty good as it compares lots of insurance companies rather than if you just phone up one company.

This may also depend upon which she is going to be driving.
Most people say just get an old banger and it'll be fine, this is wrong.
Unless the car is a low insurance group with good security and saftey equipment and also fitted alarm /immobiliser/ trackers help to get premiums down and also pass pluss helps sometimes too.
