Is my car a write off?
Hi all,
I need help, someone recently hit my parked car (and drove off i might add) but I have been in touch with them and they have admitted liability. the damage caused is about £400, however im worried that the due to my car being a bit of a banger the insurance company may try to write my car off. So my first question would be, could I request that my car isnt written off? I dont want the car to be repaired as it is still drivable, however I would like the damage cost as a settlement. is this possible? my insurance company is not very helpful, they just say get the car collected and the damaged valued, but the issue is that if its collected by their designated garage, then i have to go through the insurance company, and I cant have the car written off, its worth more to me in terms of both getting to work and also potential £2k scrappage.
Please help
Thanks

Doc's on the right track here,
However, I think I would be a little bit naughty here, and ask the other driver for the £400.00, saying it will save you going through the insurance company,Also saving his no claims bonus assuming he has insurance of course,
But if he hasn't he is in deep muck, as your insurance company will want the police to know about this,
So if I was in the same mess as him, I would give you the £400.00 to go away,

I assume you are third party only. It wont cost you anything to have it assessed. The insurers will make a decision as to whether to write it off. If its a banger then it will probably be written off. The other guy's insurers will offer you whatever it is worth. You can then negotiate to buy it back. They will pay you, less the scrap value and you get they car back. Seems a bit over the top as you will have to pay for the repairs whicn will not be economical, unless you intend to use it for the scrappage scheme. Then, if it is drivable and has a current mot you do not have to get it repaired.
