Help: Basment company gone out of business... what can I do now
I'll try to keep this as brief as poss!
We are building a chalet bungalow with basement.
We are using NHBC for the warranty. They state that they will not cover the basement and that we must provide an insurance backed warranty ourselves (for the waterproofing/tanking)
The basement tanking company can provide this at a cost of £450.
So.. all fine - everyone happy......
The company did the EXTERNAL tanking back in March. Still need to do the internal tanking. We have only paid them for work done so far.
We decided to over spec the building work and used an extra thick slab in basement in waterproof concrete - despite being told the tanking would be enough to prevent water coming in. We didnt want water problems and are near two rivers.
LUCKY we did that... as Basement company have not replied to any calls or emails - gone bust!
We personally DONT think we need to do the internal tanking as there are no water problems and we covered ourselves by using waterproof concrete slab.
HOW THE HELL do I provide NHBC with the insurance backed warranty now though???
If I go to another basement tanking co - they will charge a fortune and wont want to guarantee someone elses work.
I am certain NHBC wont guarantee it as they never agreed to in the first place.
The NHBC inspector DID check the work and was happy with all external tanking - but we now cant get the company to finish job.
Will someone buying it insist on the insurance backed warranty? Will their lender? Will NHBC insist on it - even if we cannot provide it?
I dont want to raise the problem with NHBC just yet incase there is a way round this...
We may have a tel no for the guy who works for the basement co and came to do the external? Maybe we could cut a deal??? Maybe WE fit the internal tanking and try to contact the company to see if they could certify it (for a fee!)
