My insurer says they won't pay for the leaking flat roof of my unoccupied property because their 'Premises Vacant' clause restricts cover to only Fire, Lightning, Aircraft and Explosion. Has anyone else heard of this; it seems a bit harsh.
Yes, I tried to insure a house that I inherited from my father whilst it was empty and on the market. The insurance was so expensive and excluded theft or vandalisation so I didn't bother with it.
Damage from a leaking flat roof wouldn't be covered anyway if it has failed due to wear and tear rather than storm damage or some other cause covered by the policy.
