Jewellery on House Contents
Hi,
I have just given my girlfriend a ring with a 'new replacement value' of £3,150 and (generously!) suggested that she covers it on her House Contents policy. She was told today (May 5) that the company would only cover up to £3K of an individual item and the additional premium would be £6.31p until renewal at the end of July when the additional annual charge would be evaluated. This represents, at present, a pro rate increase of approx £25 a year. Does this sound okay or could anyone please suggest an alternative to obtain - full cover, if poss. - for less? (The ring was not bought by credit card and my GF already has an individually-specified item of £2.5K on her Contents Policy.) Any thoughts gratefully received. TNX.

Insurance cover for a short period always costs more pro rata than for a full year. Some companies will also charge an extra £10 - £20 for a Mid Term Adjustment due to the administration involved. Your girlfriend may have to change Insurers in July to obtain full replacement value cover should her present insurers have such low limits, especially if she wants All Risks cover.
