Should My Car Insurance double after Honda cv runs into the car in front then shunts into mine?
16 Answers
In April, my car was parked outside my house, when this Honda rammed into the car in front which then shunted into mine and rolled. All three cars were write offs. The driver left the scene. Police arrived but refused to trace him, saying that only happens in movies. I took pictures and sent all details to my insurer. The third party refuses any liability. My insurers at first said it was a no-fault and I would not lose any NCD.
My renewal has now come up and it has gone up to £1100!! I have lost 20% NCD. When I phoned them they said I was at fault, because the claim description was 'multiple shunts', even though I was not driving. Is this right?
After re-explaing it all to them ,they have now sent a letter to the third party trying to get liability out of him, but refuse to lower my fee. I am sure they are not trying hard enough.
What should I do? No insurer will give me a decent quote because 'mutiple shunts' are now associated with fraud. Another spin to justify their price hikes.
All the witnesses are willing to identify him and testify against him, but its been 5 months now and perhaps not acceptable in court.
Over night I have become a criminal, through no fault of mine. My last accident was in 1984!!! Now my excess has become £3000!! What is the point of insurance when you have to pay for it twice.
Car insurers are sharks, and like many financial institutions blame the public to make a profit. It's time for strict regulations.

Thanks TWR, I will do that. I also work for a National News paper and they are willing to rip these people apart, but I do not want to upset them anymore!!

Hi, contact your Insurance ombudsman & explain what you have stated, 0845 080 1800, email/ [email protected] www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk also give them all the evidence you have with your details given to the police, the dates, times, witnesses, photos etc. do not lie down on this but ACT NOW.
Hi Razza, sorry I cannot mention their name at this stage, just incase I take them to court. But looking at some forums, this seems to be happening quite a lot when renewals come up after a claim. I have been on different comparison sites where every Insurer comes up with £3000 as excess. Cannot understand it, and I am having sleepless nights over this, because my renewal is comimng up in two weeks.

Hi Mdoo98, I suppose thats what it means., but then why do they say, if its a 'no fault' then you do not lose your NCD ? I was also told on the day of the incident by a sweet little voice, '....why should you lose your NCD sir, when you were not at fault sir!!?.
I also found out that my 13yr NCD had disappeared at some point!!!
Just be weary of all insurers and hidden tricks. Bye the way they can even take your personal number plates with a write off - ahem! I got a letter claiming it, just as well i did not have one.

jmr27 - the police had a laxed attitude, but they were friendly. They also must have thought that this would be an open and shut case.
Thanks to all my neighbours who came out. One made tea for us and for the police.
Just got a letter saying I might have to attend court to give evidence against the 3rd party, but if we cannot prove it then I have to incur all the charges. I think i will have to pay for the recovery, the car hire, which i did not want, (they gave me the most expensive car they could find, but i swapped it for a cheaper one) etc.
This is turning out to be a nightmare and very unfair.

Eddie51 - thanks for your response. Sorry to hear about your daughter. We should not accept this kind of financial crime against the honest public or waive it as standard practice. How exactly do we become high risk just because we made a claim? What is insurance for? We challenged the banks for over charging and got results.
I have complained to the ombudsman as TWR suggested. The driver is denying it all. He must have gone to one of these No win no fee scams.

If the police won't trace or prosecute the third party, then your insurer would have to pay for your damage.
A fault claim doesn't mean that you caused the accident. It simply means that your insurer had to cover the costs of a claim.
Did you purchase legal protection with your insurance. If so, then they may prosecute the third party for you.
If your insurer is still trying to chase the third party, then your renewal with still rise as the claim is seen a pending with the potential to be settled fault.
Unfortunately, there were over 30,000 detected fraudulent claims made last year, costing the industry over 4 Million pounds.
A sharp rise in claims and fraud has caused insurance to rise by an average 30.9%(research carried out by the AA).
I'm afraid I'm an insurance salesman(booo, hissss!!). For more tips go to http://www.squidoo.com/tips-4-car-insurance
