Basically our flat which we let out had damage to the rear door due to faulty guttering. The guttering has been repaired. The back door is water damaged so will be replaced with a new one.

I rang my insurance company and they said for me to get 1 quote for a company to replace door, I pay the £200 excess and they pay the rest. I have to give them the quote.

My question is is, once the quote is given do I have to wait for the insurance company to confirm that is fine and they pay the company direct?
Or, once the quote is confirmed can I instruct the company to replace door, then insurance co' pay to them direct?

How does it all work?

Thank you

You need the Ins Co's approval to proceed, otherwise some unscrupulous people could get a false quote for £1000.00 and split the diff' with the contractor.

Ok. How does payment normally be made? Would i need to pay then they refund? Thanks
I think you need to check with your insurers as they can differ, even on small quotes. I recently had my mothers dog knock over my pc and smashed the screen.

In this case the insurance company required the pc company to end over a report and that it was uneconomic to repair. Then they paid a cheque out to my mother as it was her insurance......and she cut a cheque to the pc company. Simple and easy and the dog actually did me a favour as I have a brand new computer.

On this sort of claim, they prefer to replace new as yes, they could have paid the repairs, but then there is a risk of a second claim being made a few weeks down the line if something else is found to be wrong as a result of the accident.......and with a new piece of kit, all issues are resolved and normal new guarantees come into play.
It depends on the underwriters.
When my house was flood damaged I prefered to manage the work myself so I submitted the quotes and liased with them as to which one was accepted. When the work was completed to my satisfaction they paid me and I in turn paid the contractors.
You need to telephone and clarify this, you should be given the name of whoever is dealing with your claim.
after we had a flood, they asked us to get the quotes, then whent hey approved the quotes they sent us cheques and we gave them to the contractors
