You do not give any details of the incident. Magistrates’ sentencing guidelines for the lowest level of careless driving (a minor lapse of concentration or misjudgement at low speed) suggest a fine of half a week’s net income (reduced by a third if you plead guilty) and 3 or 4 penalty points. You will also be ordered to pay around £80 prosecution costs and a £15 Victim Surcharge.
Probably the most important consideration for you is the rules relating to “New Drivers”. If you accumulate six or more points within two years of your first driving test success your full licence will be revoked and you will revert to provisional status. You will then have to take your driving test (both parts) again. Assuming you get only 3 or 4 points for this offence you will be OK, but bear in mind that, because the minimum number of points for any driving offence is three, any further transgressions before 24th November 2012 will mean you will lose your full licence.
