Confused was the first insurance price comparison website. They claim not to be a broker, but a one-stop shop that makes it easy for you to find the right deals on car insurance, home insurance, utilities and much more.

As with all comparison websites of this type they make their money not by charging the user but by billing their providers and partners a small fee every time one of their products or services is sold via the website.

Also they sell the idea that the user will save time by only typing their details into one online form which they then use to find the right products to match their individual circumstances. The services offered by the site cover insurance, money, utilities and travel.

Confused was launched in 2002 as the first online car insurance price comparison site, and in doing so spawned a market revolution. Confused flourished because it simplified the process of finding people great car insurance quotes. They added a home insurance section in 2005 and now cover a wide range of products and services.

They have a website in Spain, launched in 2009, which is already a leader in motor insurance price comparison in the country and they plan to expand the site with other insurance products. In 2010 the French and Italian markets were added to their growing empire.

The site is part of the Admiral group but is very careful not to favour any of their own products. They offer a completely independent and impartial service.
They have followed a rather unique marketing strategy by asking real customers who agreed to review the new Confused.com whilst being filmed. The shots were then edited together to make clever adverts for TV of genuine people extolling the virtues of the site and the vast amounts of money saved by using it.
