MoneySavingExpert is a financial services website that is dedicated to saving you money on anything from insurance to utilities to shopping, as well as everything in between.

Launched in 2003 on a very limited budget it is now the UK’s number one money site with nearly 7 million unique users every month. The founder of MoneySavingExpert was originally a specialised consumer finance journalist. During his research he started to send tips to his friends and family. After a while he realised that these tips were being passed to people he did not know and thought why not put it on the web so everyone could access it?

The site claims to be able to give the average person in the UK the equivalent of a 25% pay rise, by being an active consumer and moving their money to the best deals.

Money Saving Expert is proud that it does not charge its users for the service it offers. They make their money by using affiliate links in the guides written by staff. 

The company sees itself as a way to instruct the typical customer into what they should be doing with their money. They see a company’s job is to make money and it may spend billions on advertising, marketing and teaching their staff to sell. However, the average consumer does not get an education in how to buy the best products.

Money Saving Expert uses four ways to help their subscribers:

•    A weekly MoneySaving E-mail – the email is packed full of offers and discounts the site has found on every subject from current accounts to free theme park tickets.
•    MoneySaving Best Buy Guides & Articles – these are found on the main site and form the back bone of the concept.
•    MoneySaving Tools – if another website has built a great tool MoneySavingExpert will send you there so you can take advantage of it. They also build tools in house if there is nothing available on the web.
