Hi everyone –
I have been in the call center industry for 5 years now. I was promoted to a Supervisor / Team Leader role back in 2009 and I have been a Team Leader for over 3 years.
I have low tolerance for stress and I find myself usually getting too anxious, worked up and over stressed when dealing with the high pressures of meeting sales targets, managing agents, etc. Honestly, I can’t seem to handle stress well, I get easily affected and over emotional (I have mild borderline personality disorder, I think – based on some things I searched on the net, primarily caused by a very bad childhood). I am trying to change and cope with it as best as I can though, please don’t get me wrong
Last December 2012, I resigned and became a stay at home wife. Recent circumstances have led me to apply back at several call center Team Leader openings.

Currently, I have been accepted by 3 different companies and have been pushing back on signing the contracts since I am VERY hesitant to go back to work. I am so scared of going back and facing the same problems that had caused me several anxiety attacks and depression hits back when I was still working. I am forcing myself to work again since I really want to help rake in more money for me and my husband and our future kids / house, etc. What should I do?

I know that that is the reason why THEY PAY YOU TO WORK, because for sure you WILL get stressed, etc. But if I do go back to work, how can I cope with the stress and improve? And should I go back even if I really do not want to? I'm afraid I'll just end up right back where I started - STRESSED, ANXIOUS and BORDERLINE DEPRESSED. Right now, since I am just at home, I am happy and 100% stress free.

Should I go back to work even if I get over stressed? And if I do go back to work, can someone help me decide which company I should choose? Here they are:

1.) Company ABC (VXI Global, Philippines):
- 1 HOUR AWAY
- offered me a LOW salary
- I have to spend about PHP 10K / month on toll fees and gas
- Company Size: pretty BIG and well known, has POOR facilities
- based on feedback has LOW employee satisfaction

2.) Company DEF (Microsourcing Philippines):
- 30 MINUTES AWAY
- offered me a HIGH salary
- I have to spend about PHP 5K / month just on toll fees and gas
- Company Size: VERY SMALL and unknown, I'm afraid company may go bankrupt and close anytime, but has GREAT facilities and location
- based on feedback has MEDIUM to LOW employee satisfaction

3.) Company GHI (24/7 Customer, Philippines):
- 1 HOUR AWAY
- offered me a HIGH salary
- I have to spend about PHP 10K / month just on toll fees and gas
- Company Size: MEDIUM sized and pretty well known, has GOOD facilities and an "okay" location
- based on feedback has HIGH employee satisfaction

I answered C on your other thread comparing the same companies. However, if you can't handle stress well, do as the others suggest and look for work in another sector. Your new employer won't be happy if you go off sick due to stress.....

I'd recommend looking for work in a completely different type of work. All call centre work (particularly as a team leader or supervisor) is likely to be stressful; you need to find something with far less stress (even if it's for lower pay).
isn't there a corner shop close to home that you could just work in part time for a bit to get your confidence up? somewhere you can walk to
Hi Rodster, if call centre work is what you like and what you are used to, why not go back as a staff member and not as a team leader or boss,
That way you are still doing the job that you are used to, but without a lot of the responsibility and stress.
Good luck in whatever you decide to do. X
This whole 'question' reads like spam to me, aimed at promoting the final company mentioned.
Just checked stats Daffy, see what you mean

Oh my gosh peeps, seriously not trying to promote anything here. Just thought providing as much detail as possible would help you guys give me some sound advice maybe? As mentioned, I am unemployed and have done quite a bit of research on these companies so as to help me make the most logical choice. Thought I should go the extra mile and get some other people's advice on the matter too. Hope we could stick to the actual question and concern?... I'm in panic mode right now, hope you understand.
Hello rodster,
You have chosen to work in an occupation that is at the top of the stress tree- you may not be that easily stressed in a lower stressed job, so don't beat yourself up regarding your ability to handle strees- you could be normal, just need to change your job to something less stressful as buenchico says
Good luck anyway.
Quality of life is paramount. That said you need enough income to live on. Take steps to find a job that suits you better.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to answer. I will look for something I can do which does not stress me as much. Hopefully, the company I choose will be good for me in all ways imaginable. I will consider switching industries in the future, right now it isn't really an option yet. Again, thanks so much =)
