I wouldnt really say there is an Indian 'community' they night keep in touch but generally they have integrated as opposed to the many Pakistani Muslims who have formed little communities.

So hopefully it will stay in Pakistan & India. Not the first time this has happened, wont be the last.
Hounslow. West London has a very large Indian community. I believe there could well be violence on the streets in the UK. Until now there has always been an uneasy truce in London between Hindu,Sikh and Muslims but no love lost between them and can soon escalate. I recall a Sikh shopkeeper during the riots in Hounslow ready to defend his shop with a sword.
And so he should be able to defend his shop.

Plod aint going to help these days are they? To many people on Twitter to be caught putting messages against "The agenda" to be prosecuted.
If it escalates it wouldn't surprise me to see trouble here.

// I recall a Sikh shopkeeper during the riots in Hounslow ready to defend his shop with a sword. //

Good for him.
You say 'in the likely event' but I think that is a step too far at present.

Pakistan seem to be keen to talk to their neighbours and it is to be hoped that things get hammered out in an amicable fashion.

If the situation does escalate then yes,the potential is clearly there for some trouble here.

Question is,will there be room on our streets once the civil riots really break out over Brexit!
Even bigger Question is should some of our Foreign Aid budget be heading over to this pair?
They have nukes. Can't be in need of aid.
In the eighties I worked for a company that had a base in Bolton. One of my colleagues lived in a flat in Deane, a part of the town with a large ethnic population, and he told me of nightly street fights between the Indians and Pakistanis.
There was never any mention of this in the local, never mind national, press, so I assume it will be kicking off again shortly. As I no longer work there, I don't expect to find anything out from the media.
I was in India some years ago and remember talking to a student who was working in the hotel bar about religion and I've never forgotten his words that there were hundreds of Sects,Religions, and Languages in India but mention Pakistan and they all become Indians.
// I recall a Sikh shopkeeper during the riots in Hounslow ready to defend his shop with a sword.//

in one of the Burn Baby Burn episodes - only a few years ago, didnt one community form a chain across Lord lane norf London - and the rioters went somewhere else

when the cities last burnt after the cops shot Mark Dunghill or someone - Duggan ...

As for the Asians dont form communities - oh Lord Love us! Even the Brits in Spain have tescos where you can shop in English
// but mention Pakistan and they all become Indians.//

I remember a Pakistani being asked if he were Indian and he went apeshot ....

I think like Shameema Begum I should confess that one parent was born in India and so I cd be Indian
Do you think they will send me back - or burn my house down? or stuff bacon froo my letter box ( lightly grilled please with a touch of vinegar!)
Unlikely PP, they wouldn't have a clue what you were going on about :-)
Indian general elections are around the corner. PM Modi came in power last time with the slogan that he would demolish Pakistan. The promise he never fulfilled.

Now he is trying again, however this time his extremist followers are demanding something before the elections.

That is the main reason behind this tension. Now to your question. No, I believe people abroad are more aware of the facts and are not as gullible as people living in those countries and therefore know its all dirty politics.
You may well be right keyplus, but definitely posturing on both sides
Keyplus is right. Concerning nonetheless.
Didn't this start with a terrorist incident (nothing to do with Pakistan) incident in Kashmir?

Modi's allegedly a Hindu nationalist, isn't he? But then again, wasn't Ghandi? And wasn't Hindu eco-warrior Ghandi responsible, at least in part, for partition? Midnight's Children. It all comes back now.

Interesting times. I remember police guarding a local house (modest semi) occupied presumably by a prominent Sikh after the Indira Ghandi assassination when I was living in Southall.

// And wasn't Hindu Gandhi responsible, at least in part, for partition?//

yes Gandhi and Jinna realised that if they just didnt agree, and kept it up then they both would be given countries to govern....1947

Mountbatten's rush from Empire was a direct cause of the 250-500 000 casualties during Partition

(the above is not too complex for average ABer is it?)
Not complex at all, just not true.
I imagine there will be considerable fallout.
//Mountbatten's rush from Empire was a direct cause of the 250-500 000 casualties during Partition//

Interesting way of putting it. Louis' idea was it? Wasn't Ernest Bevin foreign secretary at the time?

As for "rush from..." and its consequences. Africa? Iraq?

Well, you work it out.
