Job Seekers And Inheritance
6 Answers
Hi I wonder if anyone could help me regarding inheritance and job seekers allowance.
I’ve tried googling and keep getting conflicting answers.
My question is I have inherited some money from the sale of my moms house after her death and want to know if this will effect my job seekers allowance.
I’m not a shirker and I am actively looking for work and don’t want to dip into my inheritance to pay the bills .
I have paid my NI all my working life and I’m 60 now
The money is basically going to be towards my pension when I retire.
Many thanks x

what conflicting answers have you found? Have you got ane example of one that says you dont.
There used to be jobseekers allowance that wasn't affected by savings just by contributions, contrabution based JSA, if your on that your okay , a sit only takes account of income

You only get contributions based JSA for 6 months. If you have been claiming it for longer than that then savings (and inheritances) are taken in to account.
This makes it quite clear that you absolutely must inform them of any change to your income and/or savings

If your inheritance is over £16k you are not entitled to JSA.
