smart shirt and trousers

How i see it is if you wear a suit you can't go wrong and it looks like you have made an effort - turn up in a smart shirt and trousers they may think you are in your normal clothes.

Also sometimes when you put a suit on its gives you a bit more of a feeling of confidence (sounds a bit daft) but i always think that. At least if you are looking smart they havent dismissed you for the job as you walk through the door.

Anyway you will be fine - just be polite, smile and have questions to ask - good luck - let us know how you get on

Thanks Surreygirl x
I'm with Surreygirl30, I'd go in a suit. Then at least they cant accuse you of not making an effort
A suit, with a neat tie knot. Do not wear white socks with black shoes.

Switch off your mobile phone, and don't go to the pub first, however nervous you may be !

(I had a bloke come to look at a job. 2 mobile phones, both of which went off during the visit. Also reeked of booze)

Good luck.

i remember years ago we had a girl turn up she stood outside (the glass door ) for ages, then walked straight into it.

When she finally came in - she just wouldnt talk even to the point of saying hello and all she kept doing was shrugging her shoulders. It was the hardest interview i ever has to carry out at the end she turned to me and said 'if the job centre rings make sure you tell them i was here'.

I think she even had ketchup on the side of her face it was hilarious lol

So what you all seem to agree on is that regardless of the job-whether for managing director or lowly binman, always wear a suit, right?
Well you can't go wrong if you do :-) They are never going to say 'oh no we wont give him the job as he was too smart' now.
The quiet ones are the hardest to interview, you just cant get any conversation going. Its all one sided
If you want the job, you need to make the effort - making an effort with a suit says you're serious about the job. Plus you'll stand out over the people who turn up in smart / casual clothes.

Id also stand out if I turned up wearing a tank top and shorts ;) would be cold though
Yes, but you'd stand out UNDER the people in smart / casual clothes ;o)
And don't forget to take the iPod earphones out when you are interviewed. I did an interviiew once when a bloke listened to music all the time. He neither got the job nor understood why he didn't.
