I am thinking of applying for a part time job in Aldi but the ad says to submit a CV. I can download a template of the internet for this but it is 20 years since I have needed a CV and given that the job is for a store assistant I dont think I need to do anything too highbrow with my CV. I was thinking of keeping it basic as am not applying to be Ch Ex or anything. Do you think that is the right approach or will they hold it against me if I play down my previous jobs?

Thanks
An unemployed and bored warpig.

hi warpig! i dont think you will need to over emphasise your previous work too much but don't play it down too much either. keep your cv layout quite simple and put a statement on there selling yourself and saying why you think you would be good for the role, using your previous jobs as a reference, say what qualities you got from them that would make you pefect for the new job. good luck xXx
Hi warpig, same situ for me but I am 62.
Would not go overboard with C V , stick to salient points. ie. previous experience and skills which be of benefit to Aldi. Long CV's can be tedious and boring to read. Remember, they need you more than you need them.
whatever the position you are applying for, present as positive and interesting C V as you can, id say any life experiences and previous employment is relevant, good luck.

Thanks folks, sound advice as always! I recently applied for a part time job in Tesco but I was still in my old job mode and realise I spoke like I was the 'big I am', as you would do in an interview for promotion! Needless to say I didn't get that job, ha, ha, boy did mrwarpig take the p*ss out of me for that one!
also i was always told to keep it to one page, that was by an employer, he said he got bored of reading ones that were too long and often never even looked at them!!! xXx
Hi Warpig, going on from the other posts, just keep it short and sweet (2 sides of A4 max) and outline yr key skills and attributes, previous employment history etc you know the drill.

Good morning bigmamma, ha ha, I may as well never have done one either its been so long!
If you are unemployed then you need this job. so you dont need to play down prev jobs.

Put your name and address at the top then a profile section underneath stating something like
'A reliable, efficient and friendly individual with experience in various industry sectors. Confident public-facing manner.

Then work history (brief)
Then education
Then hobbies/interests
