I tried to get into the army for 16 months and finally jacked it in this April after getting deffered on my 2nd selection for 6 months - but it seemed that whatever I gave them they wanted more and more from me and I just got drained from it all.
I've now been thinking about possibly trying for the RAF but am scared to have to go through it all again. I have heard they aren't as strict with how they deal with you and that perhaps some of the fitness requirements might be within my possibilities! I'm 31 and time is running out for me. I wanted to join the army to change my life so should I put myself through all the process again!? Help!

It does depend what branch of activity you are applying for, but in general the RAF looks for people with more brain-power than the Army - certainly at the base intake level. I suspect (but am not sure) that the fitness requirements may not be quite as tough.
However it is a simple product of statistics that there are 5x more personnel in the Army than the RAF - so the numbers being recruited each year are going to be less - so more competition.
There are some hard aptitude tests which you need to pass to get into the RAF. If you practice for them and work then you have as good a chance as anyone.
