Hi Folks, friend needs to do a GCSE course in Maths ASAP. She's willing to learn online, however are there any courses in Derby. She has work commitments so the best time to go to lessons would be 10AM to 2pm weekdays only. This is not negotiable as she's busy on wknds too.

If there aren't any, is there a good online course to do. Personally I just looked at Learn Direct, tho they only do City & Guilds and she HAS to do the GCSE asap.

Many thanks in advance

hi, you wont get it for free (unless she is under 18). has she been in touch with local colleges? If she is doing a course too, she wont get it done asap -most GCSE courses take a large number of weeks, culminating in the exam. Even of she learns online she'll still have to pay to sit the exam.
Maths GCSE is only available in Derby as a full academic year course (i.e. from September to June) on Thursday mornings [0930 to 1230] and Monday evenings [1730 to 2030] at the Rycote Centre on Parker Street.

The course is only free to people who come within category B here:

All others have to pay £315.

The only other courses in Derbyshire (unless there are commercially-run ones, which will be really expensive) are in Shirebrook (Tuesday mornings), Matlock (Friday mornings) and Glossop (Wednesday mornings).

Correction:
Derby College also run GCSE Maths courses but, again, they run for a full academic year. They also have 3 hours classroom tuition per week but the website doesn't say exactly when:

Don't know if this would work for your friend but in my mid thirties I did an A Level Eng Lit at my local comprehensive school...just for fun. Free and amusing for the other students but I enjoyed it.
my daughter is re-doing her maths and english GCSEs at an adult college, she does maths 6-8.30 on a tuesday and english 6-8.30 on a thursday. It is free and she is nearly 30. She enroled last summer and it started in september and finishes in may i think, it fits in well with her life and she will do her a levels after this.
How much help does your friend need? Maybe she could get a home tutor (who usually help 14 - 16 year olds with their maths work?) and then sit the exam at a registered centre?
