Company Didnt Pay Me For Courses Attended !!

i attended 3 days of intense courses for an offshore oil company in aberdeen , past them all, told i would be paid £220 a day plus travel for attendance .

now , i didnt start with company they are saying they have no record of my attendance ( i have papers here to prove which i emailed them) .

the papers state that i get paid for courses attended. but now they are reneging because i did not start.

anyone know the law regarding this

I don't think you will find any "law"...it all depends on the terms and conditions (much of it in tiny print, I suspect) on any paperwork that YOU signed.

Might be better in the law forum. That said if you opted not to start with the company (I assume this was agreed preparation prior to starting) I don't see how you could hope to be reimbursed by a company you didn't start work with.

At least they haven't billed you for the free training.
I would expect they would have some conditions in the course agreeemnt to discourage people from trying to get free training at their expense.
It seems a pretty generous rate and I think it's worth pursuing it PROVIDED you can show they were contractually obliged to pay you for attending

To be offered payment to attend training courses for a company you are not yet employed by is extremely generous not to mention unusual.

You really need to review the paperwork you must have been provided with as it is very likely to advise you that you may incur a penalty should you not take up the position offered or resign from the position within a set timeframe.

Never heard of a company paying you to attend courses if you do not take up the offer of employment with them. I am sure there will be a condition that payment was conditional on accepting employment.
I expect that they will invoice you for the cost of the courses as well !.
You don't get anything for nothing !

i took the offer of employment, i was on at airport to fly to rig but i had a serious problem at home so could not start. i called company and explained the situe but they never got back to me. at time of course we were told we would be paid an attendance fee. my friend who worked for a different offshore company attended courses and then he failed a test but the said company still paid him for his time and expenses to sit the tests . these courses left me around 700 out of pocket to do and pass .i came from belfast to aberdeen.

^^ same applies, I am sure there will be a condition that to get paid you have to take up the employment. I assume your friend took up the job with a condition that he retook the test at a later date.
If you want to take up the same type of job anytime, you are in with a head start on other applicants as you have already done the courses.

no my friend failed a drug test after he took courses. he was not employable but he still got paid

That's worth bearing in mind for next time.
It seems dd they are saying they have no record of your attendance rather than the Ts and Cs required you to accept/start the job. Check the TS and Cs and then if you have stroong case write formally demanding payment then submit a claim through the claims court if necessary. Or just reapply when it suits you- your qualification will help

The fact that a friend was paid by a different employer is neither here nor there, it's the terms offered by your intended employer that matter. What exactly do the papers you have, say about payments?
