For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.I think its a fair comment for the Uni to say that the activity was run by students though(if that is true) because if the authorities had stepped in and said “no they aren’t black enough” there would also have been hell to pay. Did the people who are now compaining get involved at the planning and choice stage?

Black history month refers back to slavery. Most black Americans have ancestry that didn't arrive in the Americas of their own free will, so yes it is wrong to include all non-white cultures. A lot of our black heritage is slavery driven too. Surely you can see why adding Asian, Inuit, Cherokee or Middle Eastern culture would not fit with the main reason Black History Month even exists?
