Due to my 13 yr old son having a lot of problems with our local school, I have been trying to change his school having gone through the admissions department with the local education authority I have been told that there are no places available in any of the local schools. Is there any way that I can force the issue to get him changed.... He currently is attending school, but it has been mutually agreed that he should sit out of lessons and stay with one teacher (not through bad behaviour on his part) so he isn't getting any real education at all.
Well my advice would be to become a haunting at your local LEA office. Phone, visit, write and make it clear in no uncertain terms that you are not going to leave them alone until they find your son a place. Threaten them with legal action and if your son is being bullied threaten them with suing them and local newspapers. Do it nicely but be firm, the LEA can move heaven and earth if they so wish. Good luck.
I agree with the above post, but would also advise you to visit your local MP at his surgery. You will be surprised how quickly things can change when LEA's start receiving letters from the sitting MP.
i had problems with my daughters school. i went to the local education office took her with me and told them i would not be sending her to back too school until they found her another place in a different school and that i would take legal action against them for depriving my daughter of her right to an education. she was placed in a new school that didnt have any places free within 2 weeks.
contact you parents in partnership service most LEAs have them they are good at letting you know your legal rights and pointing you in the right direction. They will also go with you to visit other schools and help you ask the right questions and will support you in getting meetings with the decision makers.
