Despite the fact that I have a GCSE in English I am not very comfortable with writing letters etc etc.

I would like to improve the use of vocabulary and grammer.

Has anybody got any suggestions.

I suggest contacting Learn Direct. They offer loads of courses, both online and at local centres. Many of the courses are free; others are reasonably priced. There's some information on their website

Go to your library, they have lots of text books about this exact subject you could work through.

As the essay paper has evolved it has become more demanding with much more emphasis on posing questions which allow candidates to display the higher order skills. Professor Roy Wilkinson of Sheffield University has identified a pyramid of skills which A level examinations try to test.
