I would look at psychology or philosophy as good subjects to combine with religious studies or alternatively look for religious studies as part of a combined humanities course.
I am a teacher and in our mixed ability secondary school the kids love RE as the teachers are great. If you are good at teaching and want to do it then it doesn't matter what the subject is. Always respect the pupils and be don't take yourself too seriously! I have taught some RE and it has so much potential. If you like it- go for it!
