It's my sons wedding soon and I want to hire a couple of people to clear glasses, replenish candles, check there's paper in the loos etc.
I was going to put a card in a local shop offering cash in hand
Can I do this?

Where are you holding the reception, won't the venue provide a housekeeping person to do this, as part of the hire costs? Mine did.

It's a medieval barn and nothing is provided unfortunatly
Yes of course you can, just don't put ' cash in hand' on the advert otherwise some local busybody do gooder will likely poke their unwanted oar in on the pretext that the sky will fall if such a thing is done, but yes just pay the person whatever and forget about it.
Of course you can pay cash.
Whether the people you choose to pay decide to declare it is between them and their conscience.........:o)
I see no reason why not, its down to the person receiving the cash to decide whether they want to declare it or not.

I would definitely do it, no worries.
Yes (if you have to, as per boxtops answer)

But I'd be much more inclined to try and find somebody through word of mouth than a random person by advertising in a shop window.

Many thanks everybody... As mentioned I will leave the 'cash in hand' bit out.
I'm unable to use word of mouth as I don't know the area and will have to post the card via telephone
Again many thanks x
They wont be paid enough for the taxman to be interested as was the case when I did the Yellow pages delivery so yes pay cash and if they want to declare it its up to them.
