Conditional Job Offer
I have received a conditional offer of a job, my boss is aware that I went for an interview & he has supplied a reference, but he is not aware that I have received the conditional offer. I am changing jobs because I can no longer stand his obsessive bullying. I am not keen to let him know about the conditional offer in case the offer falls through because he will make my life hell.
Do I have to inform him that I have received this conditional offer?

How much notice do you need to give under your contract?
You should give notice but if you don't I doubt they will seek to claim damages from you for breach of contract although they might threaten to- but it's probably better to keep the employer happy as you may need another reference at some stage and word can sometimes get around about employees who breach their contracts

Maydup - because of his treatment I have been off sick since January, my sick notes specifically mention the reason for the sickness. I explained of this at my interview & it was appreciated & understood - however, as you know, your sickness record is part of the checks before the offer goes unconditional & I do not want to tempt fate & would prefer not to let my boss know.
branca, how can he make your life hell if you haven't been to work for 9 months? Personally I think he will be relieved that you have found a more suitable position and that he can recruit someone else. If you are on the sick why not resign your post anyway, then should you not get this job you will not have the problem of informing your 'boss' if in future you get another job offer.
