Giving A Compliment
30 Answers
Yesterday I was in the Post Office. The counter clerk was busy putting a stamp on my parcel. I said that her nails looked nice. She said that were Shellac but she thought they were too pale. I said no, they look good. She was so happy and said I had made her day.
Just thought I would say. If you are not sure whether to compliment someone give it a go as it will most likely be appreciated. Anyone else given to or received compliment from a stranger?

I'd like for our country (U.S.) not to be so politically correct since, as a guy, I can't offer the same admiration faux or not, that you did Grassy… here, if a man were to offer such a compliment he'd soon be suspected of offending some feminist within ear shot, or worse,be accused of offering a lame pick-up line. I often compliment people in shops if I think something they are wearing, or their hair etc is nice. I agree that it makes them happy. Today in the butcher's the young lad who served me had lovely hair. I toyed with the idea of telling him but decided against it in case he thought I was chatting him up!
Last week, I was in a Post Office that I don't normally use. The young girl behind the counter had those plastic false nails, glued over her own. They were far too long and I asked her how she used a keyboard.
She said that they weren't any problem at all, but I noticed she couldn't pick up any small coins with them, having to sweep them into her palm, and throw them in the steel tray !

Oh Sillie. That rings a bell with me. About six months ago at my weekly ballet class a lady asked me if I was in the second trimester. It took me a minute or two to understand what she was saying. When I said no I wasn't pregnant she apologised and said she was mixing me up with someone else. So there is me torn between being upset to think I was looking pregnant and happy that I looked (at 66) young enough!!!!!
I almost embarrassed both my neighbour and me by commenting on her slightly rotund belly which I thought was a pregnancy. I remembered in time that she had had the same sized belly months previously, and she thankfully pulled in her stomach when she saw me looking and wondering.
Just never mention pregnancy unless you know for sure.

Time was that one could simply say "that's a nice dress" and have it mean just and only that… sad...
