3 Answers
I have just dropped out of university and have got a full-time job with the local council but I really enjoy my part-time job I have had for 3 years and was thinking of keeping it on as the hours do not clash. I was just wondering do I have to tell my new employer I will have 2 jobs or is it my choice?? my mum seems to think they will want to know and may not be happy about it but I can't see why its there business as long as I do whats expected of me for them.
any advice would be appreciated.

As you won't be leaving your present job you'll have to fil out a p46 which asks...Is this your main and only job? fill out the form, give it to your new employer, they will sent it to Inalnd Rev. Sorted. You will pay a higher rate of tax.

Not sure if the last answer was taking the mickey or not. The personnel policies of your full time employer should be available for you to see. As it is a Council, it will probably have all sorts of conditions about outside emplyemnt to make sure that there is no conflict with what you do. After all, if you were, for example, working in a licensing department of your Council, it would not be right for you to work behind a bar or drive a taxi. Having said that, if what you do outside does not impact on your full time work, there is no reason for them to stand in your way. Your time outside the office is your own. I work full time for one Council, part time for another and have a consultancy as well which provides training and advice to other Councils. All declared, all signed off by the Head of Human Resources
