Hi emma my daughters coming at 12-30 today and she`s a prison officer in a mens high security prison so I`ll get her to answer your question and any more you can think of.
hi emma.i have been a prison officer for eleven years now but i am sure the tests haven't changed. they are not as rigorous as u may think! i believe its a level 6 on the beep test(running between two set points at an increased rate every few laps)and everybody passes it,its not really that bad as you run it in groups of about five so you encourage each other.you can find out more info on www.prisonservice.co.uk.that was the only physical test we did, plus a full medical etc.I would not do anything else for a living now.good luck!

Thanks Pea pod
I think that there is also a grip test, as you will be expected to hold a riot shield at length while someone beats the s**t out of it with a big stick!
I've just been to www.hmprisonservice.gov.uk and got myself all the info & application.

Thanks for asking this question emma_22, i've thought about doing this for ages, i'm going to apply now.

Good luck & let us know how you get on
I was in the Prison Service for 28 years, (hence the name Fulton, as in Mr McKay), and it can be a good, if challenging, career.
The best advice I can give, if you are successful, is not to think how you change them, but how they will change you!
But it is not all doom and gloom. As long as you have a sense of humour and treat others as you would have them treat you, you should do OK.
Good luck.

Thanks
The JSAC just consisted of 4 role play exercises in which i took the role as a housing association officer. 3 of the Actors were tenants who i had to go and speak with about issues that been either been reported or they wanted to speak with me. The 4th was a colleauge who also worked for the housing association and he has been choosing who got the properties that come up which was against the rules of the company. You have a max of 10mins for each roleplay in which have to stand in a marked out area so the camera has got a good view of you,as you are being filmed. My best advise i can give you is that when ur in with the actor keep asking if there is anything else you can help them with as there is always another problem with them which you have to get out of them by asking the right questions so they are a que for them to give more information.
The POST is really easy dont worry about that, have you done the example questions on the website?? all the post consists of is 57 questions on maths, note taking whilst someone talks and then they ask question and you get ur answers form your notes (they speak really slow so you can write it all down). you also study a picture for 3 mins they are asked questions about it, and you write why you want to become a prison officer. when i got out of there i thought god if i dont pass that there maybe something seriously wrong with me, honestly it was really easy.
So where bouts have you applied for??
Thanks for the info!
I have applied for the London area, Pentonville as my first choice. I did the practice questions on the website & found them very easy. How soon after you sent off your application did you hear anything back from them?
Sorry for all the questions!
